Work with us

17a is hiring a Head of Network to join our core team. The Head of Network will be responsible for the most important part of 17a – the people we work with! Specifically, the Head of Network will –

  • Work with our leadership team to translate project needs into roles, including crafting job descriptions, coordinating and carrying out interviews, and refining effective, equitable hiring practices. The people we work with come from a mix of backgrounds and are motivated by our collective goal to build and earn trust in government through excellent service delivery. We love meeting potential team members and think you will, too!
  • Execute, and eventually drive, our network building strategy, with plenty of room for creative approaches! Think job boards, events, and other fun ways to be a resource to people in (or interested in!) our space.
  • Be a friendly face of 17a and chat with folks interested in our work!
  • Keep a pulse on relevant groups, events, and organizations to grow our network.
  • Support and grow the team in other areas as relevant, by collaborating across the organization, adding to our culture, and developing new focus areas over time.
This is an awesome opportunity for someone with a management consulting or fast-paced business building background who would like to try on an internally-facing role. We are looking for someone who loves people, is excited to join a growing and driven team, and is looking for a chance to shape and lead a critical part of our work!

Strong preference for candidates with demonstrated interest in improving public or social service delivery and experience in a dynamic, growth-oriented organization. Excitement about meeting new people, building great teams and thinking creatively about network building will be important to this role!

We are based in Cincinnati and New York City – of course, with flexibility for remote options.

This is a full-time, salaried role with full health benefits, 20 days paid time off + company holidays and life and disability insurance. Annual salary for this role is $160-200k depending on experience.

Improving public service delivery requires a team with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

17A is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any kind based on race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, disability, protected veteran status, age, marital status, pregnancy, familial status, membership or activity in a local human rights commission, or status regarding public assistance.

We encourage and welcome applicants who identify with groups traditionally underrepresented in government to apply.

Please contact Kaija at [email protected], if you would like to request reasonable accommodation during the application or interviewing process

You could be a great fit for this role if you have:

  • Excitement about the kind of work we do! You’re committed to advancing the quality and effectiveness of public service delivery in general and/or in specific areas of interest (e.g., health access, workforce development)
  • Comfort working on complex, open-ended problems
  • Exposure to recruiting, growing teams, and/or building networks
  • Familiarity with DEIB principles in hiring contexts
  • Experience building relationships with people in and around public sector, civic tech, and/or management consulting contexts preferred
  • Experience in management consulting or fast-paced business building environments preferred

How we work, and how you might, too:

  • Curiosity-driven communication style – listening, responding, and engaging effectively with diverse types of people
  • Creative, collaborative, and down-to-earth approach – we take our work seriously but love to laugh!
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to wrangle big ideas into digestible components
  • Commitment to excellence – not just getting things done, but getting things right
