17a is offering a fellowship for a Chief of Staff role, supporting the launch of an Economic Mobility Accelerator in a major southwestern city. We are looking for someone to join our team to work in an embedded manner with an innovative, high impact organization.

The team member will:

  • Serve in a chief of staff role to support the “day 1” launch of an economic development accelerator focused on economic development that promotes equity and economic mobility, as well as on pursuing federal funding opportunities to advance those goals. The accelerator will have 3 other team members, and will be part of a larger established non-profit known for innovation in place-based economic mobility.


  • Work closely with the leader of a nationally respected non-profit organization and a wide range of regional stakeholders.


  • Design and lead the management of regional initiatives to pursue federal funding opportunities in the service of the broader regional economic development, equity and economic development goals.


  • Develop opportunities, build plans, and align stakeholders to achieve the accelerator’s mission.


  • Lead direct engagement, coalition building and community-based problem solving in partnership with local residents, community organizations, local government agencies and leaders in the regional business community.


  • Translate consulting skills into action by designing, establishing plans, leading stakeholders and working to implement equity-oriented, impact-driven programs.


  • Be part of the 17a core team and work closely with 17a’s leadership during the duration of the project, to tie experiences on the ground with your broader goals for impact and your broader career aspirations.

  • Ability to start between early to mid-January 2024
  • Full time availability for ~4-6 months
  • Minimum 20 months management consulting or similarly relevant experience
  • At least 4 years of total work experience preferred
  • Must be excited about working as part of a broader team, and thinking creatively about effective, equity-driven solutions
