17a Fellowships for 2017

Hacking Heroin Fellow

  • Fellows will be responsible for managing 17a's Hacking Heroin community initiative, which focuses on building and scaling the best technology to fight the opiate epidemic

  • Ideal candidates - creative, high energy, background in tech/product development or behavioral health, with strong/demonstrated interest in improving public sector service delivery
  • Primary responsibilities include 
    • Setting strategy, designing initiatives and executing on those plans for 17a's efforts across the addiction space- including incubation supports for tech in the space, product design for data science tools that will influence policy and thought leadership development
    • Managing the hacking heroin community
    • Developing partnerships 
    • Running collaborative efforts with 17a's data science, start up and venture partners
    • Developing insights on product and strategy for 17a's role in the addiction prevention/response/recovery space
  • 15 hours per week for 3, 6 or 9 months
  • Preference for Boston or Ohio-based fellows, but location is not a limiting factor!
  • Travel as needed (likely 1 trip per month, 2-3 days each); travel paid for by 17a

GovTech Product Development Fellow - tech focused on cross sector services for "high utilizers"

  • Fellows will be responsible for managing pilots with 17a's data science partner across 3 regions; pilots are for data integration platform built to improve service delivery for high utilizers across health/housing/criminal justice. Tech approach is microservices/open API/modular analytics; collaborative development process with high touch interactions with social service ecosystem and 3rd party app developers

  • Ideal candidates - extremely collaborative, organized and analytical, with strong/demonstrated interest in improving public sector service delivery
  • Primary responsibilities include:
    • Managing client engagement for the groups included in the pilots, product team and tech partners
    • Managing product design process - including collecting and refining ideas for specific pilots and coordinating across high utilizer pilots
    • Brokering data sharing process for each pilot
    • Sharing broader insights on health and human services product strategy
  • 15 hours per week for 3, 6 or 9 months
  • Preference for Boston-based fellows, but location is not a limiting factor!
  • Travel as needed (likely ~2 trips per month, 1-2 days each); travel paid for by 17a

Public Sector Strategy fellow

  • Fellows will be responsible for managing a 17a program design project in Medicaid and developing thought leadership about other areas of public service delivery

  • Ideal candidates - creative, high energy, analytical, with a background in law, management consulting or running a P&L, with strong/demonstrated interest in improving public sector service delivery
  • Primary responsibilities include 
    • Developing the strategy and program redesign for a specific Medicaid program - with heavy focus on data driven insights and a coherent look at program's relationship to other state plan programs
    • Leading change management with provider community - including getting input, facilitating trainings and developing tools for providers to better manage the program's population
    • Developing thought leadership in the areas of public service delivery including administrative law / participatory democracy and next gen approaches to public service delivery
  • Preference for Boston-based fellows, but location is not a limiting factor!
  • 15 hours per week for 9 months

Strategy Lead

  • High energy, analytical, and strong interest in improving public sector service delivery 
  • 2+ years of management consulting or other analytical business role
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complexity and motivate different types of people easily
  • Open to travel
  • 2+ years of work experience - title, responsibility and comp flexible for level of seniority / negotiable. 
  • Note: Responsibility / comp will reflect candidate experience and skill set.
