Work with a major US city to develop the big goals that will drive cross-agency strategy on a few key issues —and then design the best ways to actually get there.

Strong preference for candidates excited to work with a large city and dedicated to improving urban housing, transportation, urban planning and/or climate.

Initiative Lead, City Strategy Project

Lead the development of ‘moonshot’-style initiative(s) for the strategic plan of a large city - focused on equity and sustainability across a number of issue areas (e.g., housing, economic development, etc.)

  • Work closely with leadership across a major US city and other partners, as well as the 17a core team, on the development of city-wide strategic plan (not in a dead doc but a set of visible, audacious goals that will drive cross-agency strategy on a few key issues —and then design the best ways to actually get there).

  • Core responsibilities include leading the development of city-wide priorities in one specific issue area (e.g., housing, mobility/transport, climate/resilience, economic development).

  • Must be comfortable with and excited about engaging stakeholders from a range of city departments, sizing the impact of potential initiatives with analytical rigor, and thinking creatively about program design elements that will best meet city-wide needs.


  • Immediate start, as possible.

  • Full time, 20-25 weeks.

  • Travel to a major US city 4 days per week.
